How to Read Your Data
1. Stream Tracking vs. Revenue Tracking
Streams are updated daily. When you look at your dashboard, you are seeing the number of times your song was played yesterday. Revenue, however, operates on a 2-3 month delay. This is an industry standard because Spotify and Apple Music take time to calculate their subscription pool payouts and send the funds to distributors.
2. Audience Insights (Cities & Countries)
Your demographic data is your most powerful marketing tool. If you notice a spike in listeners from London, you should focus your Facebook/Instagram ads targeting users in London. This localized targeting guarantees a higher conversion rate for your marketing budget.
3. Playlist Performance
Tracking your "Playlist Adds" tells you how the algorithm is treating you. If your track is added to algorithmic playlists like Release Radar or Discover Weekly, you will see a massive spike in streams. Your goal as an independent artist is to drive external traffic to trigger these algorithmic additions.
